ECF Membership: Gold membership of the English Chess Federation is compulsory for English players in the FIDE Open, and FIDE rated sections of the Weekday Classic and Weekend Classic B.


Silver membership is required for all players in all other events (Weekday Classic U135, Weekend Classic A, Weekend Classic B U120, and all Rapidplay events) for all players regardless of nationality or a £6 pay-to-play fee per event applies.

FIDE Identification Number (FIN): Non English players in FIDE rated events must provide their FIDE identification number (FIN) at the time of entry. If you do not have a FIN, you must apply to your federation for one before entering.


Ratings/Gradings: FIDE Ratings from the December 2013 list will be used to determine section eligibility for all FIDE rated sections. Standard ECF grades published in the August 2013 list will be used for section eligibility in all non-FIDE rated sections. Rapidplay ECF grades published in the August 2013 list will be used for all Rapidplay tournaments.


Watching the London Chess Classic: All competitors will have access to the Auditorium and Commentary room free of charge only if space permits and after tickets have been sold on the day. To ensure access at weekends, tournament entrants should purchase a ticket. There will also be live coverage of the main event on screens in the foyer.


Mobile Phones: Mobile phones must be switched off in the playing hall. Competitors should avoid bringing phones into the playing area (a free staffed cloakroom is provided). You will be immediately defaulted if your phone makes any sound during play.


Parental Responsibility: Parents or guardians are responsible for their children during the tournament. The organisers and helpers are not able to act “in loco parentis” and are not able to take responsibility for any child’s actions, or for the actions of anyone that may affect your child.


Organiser Liability: The organisers accept no responsibility for any loss, theft or accident during the tournament.


Right to refuse entry: The tournament controller reserves the right to refuse entry without being required to state a reason. The tournament controller also reserves the right to transfer players between tournaments at any time.


Pairings: For all events, pairings will be according to FIDE swiss pairing rules, using the Swiss Master computer program.


Disputes: Decisions of an arbiter (except decisions under article 10.2) may be appealed to the appeals committee provided that

  1. Such appeal is received within 30 minutes of the arbiter’s decision.

  2. Such appeal is accompanied by an appeal fee of £10 which will be returned if the appeal is successful. The appeals committee’s decision is final and binding in all matters.

Withdrawals: No refund can be given to any person withdrawing from, or not turning up to, any event. No part refund will be given to anyone wishing to withdraw while the tournament is still in progress. Full refunds will be given up to Friday 29 November; between 30 November and the start of the event a £10 admin fee for all refunds will apply.


Refreshments: There will be a full range of refreshments at the venue as well as a good range of cafes and restaurants in the local area. Please note food purchased outside of Olympia will not be allowed into the venue.
